Equipment World raises $ for Habitat and Smiles for Kids
The Annual Great Gingerbread House build in support of Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay was bigger and more delicious than ever. With the help of Equipment World, Little Digger’s Day was also incorporated into the event. Habitat for Humanity received $2000.00 in proceeds from the Little Diggers Day event and the great Equipment World Team. This contribution and all the funds raised from the Great Gingerbread House Build will mean a family in our community will be given a hand up to affordable home ownership.
Thunder Bay Koa Wins Major Award
The Thunder Bay KOA Campground has been awarded the 2014 KOA Presidents and Founder’s Award by Kampgrounds of America Inc. The award is presented annually to campgrounds that receive the highest scores in customer service from their campers and top scores in KOA’s annual quality review.
Age-Friendly Business Guide
The Age-Friendly Thunder Bay Community Based Stakeholder Committee received $75,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to develop an age friendly business guide. It is predicted that by 2023 one third of Thunder Bay’s population will be 65 years of age and over! It is important both for Thunder Bay seniors to keep businesses informed about their needs and for Thunder Bay businesses’ to recognize this important business niche.

Tbaytel Wins Canadian Cable Systems Alliance Community Channel Award and Donation for Children’s Wish Thunder Bay
Tbaytel has been named the recipient of the 2013 Canadian Cable Systems Alliance (CCSA) Community Channel Award in innovation for NextBus and Flight Status- two of Tbaytel’s local content digital TV apps. Tbaytel is also being recognized with the donation of a $1,000 cash prize to benefit Children’s Wish Thunder Bay.

Transit App Wins Award!
Thunder Bay Transit has received the Canadian Urban Transit Association’s (CUTA) Corporate Leader Innovation Award for a partnership with Tbaytel to develop a new app for riders.
The new Transit app provides real-time schedule and vehicle location information directly to the rider’s television through Tbaytel Digital TV.
Lakehead Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic

The Lakehead Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic is part of a primary health care delivery model in Ontario in which Nurse Practitioners are the lead providers of primary health care. The clinic is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The clinic provides comprehensive, accessible, and coordinated family health care services to residents of Thunder Bay who do not have access to another primary care provider. A collaborative practice approach is used which includes:

• Registered Practical Nurses
• Social Worker
• Consulting Physicians
George Jeffrey Soap Box Derby Races Biggest Ever
Congratulations to the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation and Superior North EMS Paramedics who recently held their most successful Soap Box Race yet! With a best ever attendance of 40 racers and tremendous support from sponsors and pledges raised by all the soapbox race drivers a record-setting $35,000 was raised to support the George Jeffrey Children’s Centre and the children they serve.
With the overwhelming response the Foundation is looking to grow the event and is looking for sponsors to help build soapbox racers for next year.
Thunder Pet Grand Opening @ 1605 Mountdale Avenue
On June 29th, Thunder Pet held the grand opening of their new location on the corner of Gore and Mountdale. The event included a barbeque lunch, which helped raised money for New Hope Dog Rescue, Local Dog Rescue, and Kitty Kare.
