Chamber 3M - March 2011 - Articles
Membership
Survey
As it was once put to me, the membership is essentially our boss here at the Chamber.
Therefore, we are looking for your input on how we are doing in that job, as well as what areas should we be focusing.
The survey below will take 4-7 minutes of your time and will provide invaluable information into how we operate.
At the end of the survey there is the option to do an additional survey which is aimed to help arm 2 of your Committees with information to help their efforts.
To fill out the survey please go to:

Your input is GREATLY appreciated.
OFIA
Awards
On March 2, 2011 the Ontario Forestry Industries Association held their 68th AGM.
At their luncheon they unveiled their Ontario Forest Sector Champion Awards, recognizing 11 community organizations and leaders.
Among the prestigious group recognized were your Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce and President Harold Wilson.
Chair of the Board, Justin Frape, accepted the awards on our behalf.
Commenting on the award, Justin noted:
“Throughout the north the mantra should be to maximize value. Our chamber led the charge last year to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, which unanimously supported our resolution that a minimum of 26 million cubic metres of wood annually be legislated as available for use by existing mills and new entrants.”
Left to right: Mayor David Canfield (Kenora), Mayor Al Spacek (Kapuskasing), Justin Frape (Chair of the Board, Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce), Jamie Lim (President OFIA), Brian Nicks (Chair of the Board, OFIA), Marianne Berube (Wood Works!), Jeff Muzzi (County of Renfrew), Mayor Roger Sigouin (Hearst), Councillor Michael Doody (Timmins)

PDAC
Convention
2011

From March 6-9, 2011, the Chamber was presenting the region as part of a team that included Confederation College, Lakehead University, the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Corporation and Fort William First Nation at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada’s 2011 Convention held in Toronto.
Harold Wilson was very pleased to represent the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce as part of the team that worked the floor and raised our profile at this year’s PDAC conventio over 2 and a half days as suppliers to the mining industry and mining promoters were at the centre of what was a world-wide audience. Many local firms, including Genivar and KBM Resources, and a number of regional mining properties, were working to increase the economic impact of the growing exploration, development and mining sector for our community. Networking was the priority, and now following up is the key.
An
Active Chamber
On March 31, 2011 Paul Morralee will be showing a documentary he has filmed covering the first 100 days of the new administration at City Hall called “100 Days of City Hall”.
To see a trailer of the documentary you can go to
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiSF-ySe3lY&feature=youtu.be

During this evening Paul is also showing a video he did with the Chamber back in 1993 called “Chamber in Action”, documenting a year of activities.
The show will be held at 7pm and 8:30 in the Paramount Theatre.
Tickets are $5.
Speaking of “old” Chamber footage – can you recognize the face at the 0:28 mark in this 1996 video recently shown during TBT News?

After Business
–
March 16, 2011
The Victoria Inn hosted what was by all accounts a fantastic After Business.
During the March Break when some are enjoying warmer climes the Victoria Inn’s renowned staff drew in over 160 people and 24 exhibiting booths.
The Victoria Inn held a draw for a dinner Chicago Joe’s and a Jacuzzi suite, which John Nistico (Primary Foto) won.
For a few of the photos from that night, just view the public Facebook album.
These After Businesses are becoming quite the social scene with a high demand.
We look forward to seeing everybody at the next event on April 20th at Recreation World.
