Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) Update
October 2011
Between September 17-19, Chambers from across Canada debated resolutions that dealt with finance and taxation, industry, environment and natural resources, international affairs, social policy, transportation and infrastructure. In late spring, Harold was asked by colleagues with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce to be the co-chair of our Ontario Policy Caucus, and all of the resolutions were reviewed and discussed on weekly conference calls over the course of the summer. It was a very involved exercise, and at the AGM, it meant rallying many other Chambers to garner support. We believe we strengthened several resolutions that will be moved forward as advice and recommendations to the Federal Government, and several, like protecting trade on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, were particularly important for our area. A complete list of the resolutions that were passed will be available at http://www.chamber.ca/ shortly.
Since then, there has been considerable concern about changes to the Canada-US border. To review Perrin’s article: An Attack on Canada’s Ports and Railroads, click here. |
