St. Joseph’s Care Group (SJCG) combines tradition and innovation in responding to the unmet needs of the people of Northwestern Ontario since 1884. We are here for our clients, offering a broad range of programs and services in Addictions & Mental Health, Rehabilitative Care, and Seniors’ Health across multiple sites in the City of Thunder Bay.

We serve many remote and isolated communities where access to specialized health services is a challenge. We find new and innovative ways to deliver care through technology and partnerships. We are the Regional Lead for Rehabilitative Care, Behavioural Supports and Palliative Care.
Coupling research with mobilization, our Centre for Applied Health Research (CAHR) supports staff and clinicians through expertise, project consultation and knowledge translation.
Our Behavioural Sciences Centre is a provider of specialized multidisciplinary counseling, education, assessment services.

Addictions & Mental Health
SJCG provides a variety of inpatient and outpatient addictions and mental health services, and has multiple supportive housing locations that help clients with a serious mental illness live successfully in the community.
Balmoral Centre offers withdrawal management services providing 22 crisis management and stabilization beds.
Sister Margaret Smith Centre specializes in residential (40 spaces) and outpatient mental health and addictions for adult and youth, problem gambling, behavioral addictions, and eating disorders.
St. Joseph’s Health Centre provides a range of outpatient mental health services including chronic pain management, counseling, outreach and employment services.
St. Joseph’s Hospital has 38 inpatient mental health rehabilitation beds for people living with a severe, persistent, chronic, and/or relapsing mental illness, along with other co-existing issues.
St. Joseph’s Hospital has another 224 inpatient beds providing a range of services including medically complex, physical rehabilitation, palliative care, transitional care, geriatric assessment and rehabilitative care.
Outpatient rehabilitation encompasses orthopedic, neurological, respiratory and rheumatic conditions, and wound and foot care. Seniors’ outpatient services help to improve physical and mental health, functioning, independence and quality of life.
Diabetes Health supports people living with diabetes and prediabetes by providing the knowledge, skills and supports essential to managing the disease and living a healthy lifestyle.
SJCG is the largest provider of nonprofit long-term care services in the region. In addition to the 112-bed Bethammi Nursing Home, SJCG’s Hogarth Riverview Manor (HRM) has capacity for 544 residents and is one of the largest long-term care homes in Ontario.
Supportive living is available for seniors who need assistance to live independently. Sister Leila Greco Apartments has 132 apartments and P.R. Cook Apartments has 181 apartments.
The Manor House Adult Day Program offers a social and recreational day program for older adults living with Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementia conditions.
