Candidate Profile: Syed Kabir (Italian Cultural Centre)
I moved to Thunder Bay in 2014 to pursue my MBA degree at the Lakehead University. Me and my wife fell in love with this beautiful city, and we decided to stay here and raise our kids. I joined the Chronicle-Journal right after completing my master’s degree, and later promoted to Advertising Manager. I also worked as the Managing Editor of the business magazine – PROGRESS, published by the Chronicle-Journal. In 2020, I joined the Italian Cultural Centre as a General Manager. I joined SHIFT (Thunder Bay’s Young Professional Network) in 2015 and had been elected as the President in 2020. In 2019, I founded a full-service media company – Creon Media (www.creonmedia.ca) and have been helping the local business to build their online presence.
I have always been active in the local community, and I believe the opportunity to participate as a Chamber board member is something I can contribute to in a meaningful way. As a small business owner myself, I strongly believe that there is a huge potential for entrepreneurs and new business in Thunder Bay. My experience is not just in business, but in all areas of community building, which I believe is important to the success of all our valley businesses.
