Where in the World is Thunder Bay?

Situated in the heart of Canada, Thunder Bay is the largest community on Lake Superior. Home to over 120,000 inhabitants, it is the most populous municipality in Northwestern Ontario. We value our high quality of life and promote a clean, green, beautiful and healthy community that provides economic opportunity, respects diversity and provides affordable and safe neighbourhoods that are accessible to all.

A Regional Business Hub

Thunder Bay is a vibrant and growing community and is the region’s commercial, administrative and medical hub. From trees to transportation to the new frontier for research, health and life sciences, the community stands for hard work and innovation.

A Dynamic Natural Wonderland

Thunder Bay is a four-season outdoor paradise and is one of the most dynamic “Cultural Capitals of Canada”. Residents and visitors of Thunder Bay enjoy the harmony of a city rich in wide-open green spaces, parks and wilderness – and a major centre for visual and performing arts and culture. Thunder Bay is the gateway to Northwestern Ontario and to some of the most exotic year-round experiences on earth. Feed your appetite for adventure in one of Canada’s Best Outdoor Cities.

Getting Here

We’re Connected!

The Thunder Bay International Airport is the 4th busiest in Ontario and is a one- or two- hour flight from other major centres in Canada. Over 800,000 passengers passed through the Thunder Bay International Airport in 2016, many of them bound northwards to Canada’s most remote communities. Thunder Bay is exceptionally well-served by Air Canada Jazz, Porter Airlines and Westjet, with Bearskin Airlines and Wasaya Airways offering a scheduled flight network to passengers within the region and the North. Located near the geographical centre of Canada, Thunder Bay is easily accessible via ground, water or air. Pigeon River, a major Ontario/Minnesota border crossing, is less than one hour south of Thunder Bay via Provincial highway.

The 2018 Canadian Chamber of Commerce AGM and Convention brings together over 320 chamber of commerce executives and community business leaders to discuss the economic and political issues that affect the prosperity of Canadian business, enabling member chambers to become more relevant and successful advocates for their communities. It is also the opportunity for chambers of commerce to present their member businesses’ key concerns to our cross-country network. The resolutions that we will adopt to suggest ways to foster a stronger economic environment for business will be presented to the federal government and shape our public policy objectives for the upcoming year.
