Luncheon and Open ForumThursday, March 8 | 11:30am - 1:30pm
Thursday, March 8, 2018
11:30am – 1:30pm
Victoria Inn Hotel
Join us for a luncheon and participate in an open forum as we explore current challenges and opportunities within Ontario’s apprenticeship system with guests from Germany.
This luncheon is being hosted in partnership by your Chamber, the North Superior Workforce Planning Board, Local Employment Planning Council and Chamber Member Uli Walther. It is part of a series of engagement sessions focusing on the modernization of Ontario’s apprenticeship programs and services. International Lessons in Developing a Highly-Skilled Workforce events will take place from March 7th to 9th, 2018 in Thunder Bay, and will focus on the potential for adopting new strategies and best practices that have been successfully implemented in other jurisdictions.
For over 100 years, the dual-system apprenticeship model that has been implemented in Germany has proven to be a successful approach to reducing skills shortages in the workforce. This system splits education between the workplace and the classroom, with a high degree of involvement from employers. In order to facilitate and explore how this system can be adapted to Ontario’s current model, we have invited our German apprenticeship connections to lend their expertise and further the dialogue surrounding integrated learning.
