Congratulations to the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship recipients. Eraj Rehman of Sir Winston Churchill and Sasha Wilson of Westgate CVI are going to receive $500 each to apply to their business-related program at University or College for the 2018/2019 year.
Tracey J. Nieckarz, a partner at Buset & Partners LLP, was appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario in Thunder Bay. She replaces Madam Justice H.M. Pierce, who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective June 27, 2017. Congratulations, Tracey!
Confederation College President, Jim Madder, hosted more than 200 guests at his annual President’s Breakfast at the Victoria Inn on May 24th. Madder highlighted the achievements of the second year of the College’s three-year strategic plan, titled ‘Wiicitaakewin,’ The Path to 2020, as well as addressing what the community can expect going forward. Dignitaries, College staff and alumni, and community partners and supporters were in attendance.

The City of Thunder Bay welcomes the commitment today from the Province on a partnership with the non-Profit Lake Superior Centre for Regenerative Medicine (RegenMed) to expand the tissue processing system. As part of the new system, RegenMed will handle the preparation, storage and distribution of all tissue donated in Ontario to be used for transplants. Your Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Fund supported this work.
Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. Ltd. wins bronze in annual national brewing contest. Sleeping Giant was recognized for their newest flagship beer, Mr. Canoehead, which earned a bronze in the North American Style Amber/Red Ale category. Way to go! Read more.
St. Joseph’s Care Group has achieved Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) designation from the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO).
Ultimate Gymnastics‘ competitive squad took the city of North Bay, Ontario by storm last week, returning with the lion’s share of awards. Overall, 19 of the club’s competitive athletes made 85 trips to the podium while snagging a staggering 91 awards overall, throughout the weekend at the 20th Annual Sunshine Classic, hosted by North Bay Gymtrix.
In March, the City Thunder Bay successfully began releasing procurement documents via bids&tenders for goods and services. The City is currently investigating the process of receiving electronic bids and hopes to have this feature launched by year’s end. The City continues to support the Construction Association of Thunder Bay in hosting its construction and engineering tenders.
