October

This month bdc celebrates Canadian entrepreneurship with Small Business Week 2017. From October 15th-21st there are over 300 events happening across Canada, including many happening right here in Thunder Bay. Make sure to check out the full list of local events & help celebrate Canadian entrepreneurship. 

The City of Thunder Bay welcomes a seven person delegation from Nanning, China. A friendship agreement between the two cities will be signed for the purpose of enhancing and developing friendship and cooperation between the two cities.

Conquer the Tower Returns in support of PRO Kids  (City of Thunder Bay) & Thunder Bay Diving Club.  On Thursday November 9th the local fundraising event will see business and community representatives take the plunge from the Canada Games Complex towers.

Award winning DJ shub performed a free concert as a part of Culture Days & Open Streets event on October 1st at 1pm. The show was  presented in the Matawa First Nations Management parking lot near the corner of John St. & Court st.

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSOM) & Fort William First Nation are partnering up to encourage Indigenous Youth to pursue careers in health. NOSOM offers summer camps designed to fit the needs of First Nations Students, including hosting the summer camps in First Nation Communities.

Porter Airlines is establishing a crew base in Thunder Bay, Ont., as of January 2018. The move creates at least 40 local jobs for pilots and flight attendants. It is the first such base in Northern Ontario for any large commercially-scheduled airline.“Thunder Bay is a significant Northern Ontario centre that is very important to Porter’s network,” Robert Deluce, Porter president and CEO, said in a media release.

The RBC Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Mentoring Program connects Lakehead University students to a range of professionals, who play an important role in our student’s university career. As a mentor you can help to shape the future of the students through a professional and career- focused program. Thunder Bay International Airport has set an all time passenger record. For the first time in the airport’s history, monthly volume exceeded 80,000 passengers due to the increase in international traffic of those attending Confederation College, Lakehead University and the Under 18 World Baseball Championships.

Tbaytel for Good Community Fund is looking for your Good Ideas this fall. The Tbaytel for Good Community Fund is back for another season. The social giving program for northern Ontario is looking for your ideas to continue building healthy and strong communities.

Alpha Court, Canadian Mental Health Association Thunder Bay, St. Joseph’s Care Group, and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre have joined forces to offer a single point of contact called Access Point Northwest, dedicated to helping people find the services they need. Access Point Northwest simplifies the outpatient referral process for clients and primary care providers in Northwestern Ontario. It is for people and health care providers to access programs specifically in outpatient mental health, supportive housing, case management, and chronic pain management.
