Candidate Profile: Andrew Bishop (Resolute Forest Products Ltd.)

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, I am honored to have been nominated to serve as a Director for the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce.  Having grown up in Thunder Bay, I am proud to see how the community has evolved over time and am excited for what the future can bring.  Following the completion of my undergraduate degree from Lakehead University I spent a number of years in Western Canada, which helped me to develop an appreciation of what Thunder Bay truly has to offer.  This was a key factor in our decision to move back home to raise our family.  I would love to serve as an advocate for the business community, supporting initiatives that will help to foster economic growth and job opportunities for the community of Thunder Bay.

With nearly 10 years in the forest products industry, I bring to the Board a strong knowledge and understanding of the far reaching economic impact of the industry for the region of Northwestern Ontario.  I also have a strong business acumen with nearly 15 years of finance and accounting experience, and was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2009.  Finally, I bring previous governance experience having sat on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Community Care Access Centre (NWCCAC) for nearly 5 years, until the Board was dissolved and the services moved under the direction of the Northwest Local Health Integration Network (NWLHIN).  During my tenure on the Board, in addition to serving as a Director, I was also appointed as Treasurer and sat on multiple committees (Finance, Risk Management & Audit, and Human Resources).  I feel that I bring a broad range of skills and experience to the Board, and am excited for the potential opportunity to represent local business interests in Chamber initiatives.
