Candidate Profile: Bianca Garofalo (Bight Restaurant & Bar)
As the owner and operator of three local restaurants, Bianca Garofalo has been involved in the business community in Thunder Bay since 2006. Starting her first successful business at the age of 31, Bianca exhibits all the definitive characteristics of an entrepreneur.
In 2012, with her proven track record in the restaurant industry, Bianca embarked on the groundbreaking development at Thunder Bay’s Prince Arthur’s Landing, Marina Park. Bight Restaurant & Bar opened its doors in December of 2012 to an enthusiast market and has seen continued success ever since. In 2015 Bight was awarded the New Business Excellence Award by the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce.
Continued expansion in 2014 led to the acquisition of Giorg Ristorante and again in 2016 with the opening of El Tres. Her business philosophy involves extensive partnerships with local purveyors and the tourism sector as well as fundraising and support for countless local charities and support for local artists. These businesses are also responsible for the creation of over 100 jobs in her local community.
For these efforts, Bianca was awarded “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” at the Influential Women of Northern Ontario Awards in 2013. She also provides mentoring for the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. She is currently an instructor in the Business and Hospitality department at Confederation College. Bianca also holds a Board position for Alterna Savings. Alterna is the 9th largest Credit Union in Canada with over $8 billion in FUM. Bianca is currently serving her second term with the credit union and is currently Chair of the Nominating Committee, as well as serving on the Finance & Audit Committee.
I am seeking the opportunity to serve on the Board or Directors for the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce. As a member of the Chamber for several years, I believe my experience, as a business owner, as well as my Governance experience would be an asset to the Chamber Board. I am passionate about our community and hope to contribute to its growth and prosperity by acting as a representative for Chamber Members through responsible governance and advocacy.
