As of August 22, Section 338 Tariffs are now in place for exports to the United States on a selection of goods (See the affected products guide below for full details).
The suspension of negotiations was announced in a statement by Prime Minister Carney on August 21st and outlined at a media conference on August 22nd.
The Government of Canada will be providing more details in the coming days on the next steps to protect Canadian interests, including dollar for dollar counter-tariffs that will come into force the Tuesday after Labour Day, as well as additional measures to support Canadian workers and businesses impacted by U.S. tariffs.
